Marjorie passed away on Feb. 2, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born in Woburn, MA, the daughter of a pastor, she grew up in the Northeast, including Worcester, MA; Tenafly, NJ; and Garden City, NY. In 1953, Marjorie graduated from Colby College in Waterville, ME with a degree in nursing. She started her nursing career at Meadowbrook Hospital, East Meadow, NY and finished it at San Jose Hospital in 1991. This dedication to caring for others led her to volunteer throughout her life helping senior citizens and forming life-long friendships.Marjorie was an accomplished pianist and organist, active in the music programs at every church she attended including Grace Baptist Church, San Jose, CA, where she was a member since 1968. Marjorie and her husband, Lloyd, enjoyed travelling all over the world during their retirement years, from sailing on the QE II, to driving across Australia, to researching their family trees in England and Scotland. She also looked forward to the many family camping vacations to Silver Lake, CA. In addition, she attended musical productions for her children as well as many community theatre and symphony events.Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lloyd S Burns Jr. She is survived by her brother, Phillip Shearman, Gorham, ME; her daughter, Debi Simonsen (Eric), Morgan Hill; her son Lloyd Burns (Barbara), Fair Oaks, CA; her daughter Elizabeth Swanson, Warsaw, IL; eight grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Grace Baptist Church, 484 E San Fernando St., San Jose. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
