Louwilla (Poppy) Gounas passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024 in San Jose California. She was born in Oakland California and was a long time resident of Redwood City. She attended Notre Dame High School in Belmont and went to San Mateo Junior College. She worked as a secretary for the US Navy at Moffett Field. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and Turkey and later worked for the American Consulate in Athens, Greece, where she met Ted Gounas, who was in the Greek Air Force. They fell in love and came back to Redwood City to get married. They moved to San Jose in 1968. She worked in the library at San Jose City College for 17 years. Poppy and Ted had three children, Julie, Peter and Patrick. Ted passed away in 2002 and Peter passed away in 2011. She has one grandchild, Patrick’s daughter, Melanie. Many heartfelt thanks go to her devoted caregiver, Martha Jauregui, who lovingly cared for Poppy for 12 years and to her family who helped in many ways. Poppy is survived by Julie and Roger Estes, Peter’s spouse, Dot Juanitas, Patrick and Elizabeth Gounas, Melanie and Colton Jack and many cousins. Services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11 am at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1425 Bay Rd, East Palo Alto, CA 94303.
