New works at SJZ

San Jose Jazz is showcasing a couple artists this month as part of its New Works Fest at the SJZ Break Room in downtown San Jose. Guitarist Hristo Vitchev and pianist/composer Dahveed Behroozi both received grants from SJZ’s Jazz Aid Fund to develop new works.
Behroozi, who serves on the music faculties at Gavilan College and San Jose State University, is set to perform Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. along with drummer Jason Lewis. His focus is in jazz, classical, and new music.

Originally from Bulgaria, Vitchev combines elements of classical, modern jazz, folk and avant-garde sounds in his music. He’ll perform Feb. 23 at 8 p.m., along with pianist Jasnam Daya Singh, bassist Dan Robbins and drummer Mike Shannon.

Tickets for both shows are $10 at https://sanjosejazz.org/tickets.
