She has worked as a reporter, features editor and assistant metro editor at newspapers in Wisconsin and Northern California and has been at what is now the Bay Area News Group since 1990. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with bachelor's degrees in journalism and English, and also studied theater, arts and history in London, England, through UW-Stevens Point.
